本Washinton Irving的旅行札记随便翻阅(此君的文才我早就有所闻, 仰慕很久了).
首先当然要读一读大名鼎鼎的Rip Van Winkle. 故事本身并不复杂, 写一个惧内的
又成天无所事事的人有一天进入一个山谷, 遇到很多山中高人, 喝了一些酒后就人
事不醒, 醒来后发现关节疼痛, 胡子暴长, 原来已是二十年以后了. 描写得果然生
动. 有时还甚为恐怖. 跟中国的神话故事有所不同的是: 可怜的Rip Van Winkle经过
这番折腾, 一点好处也没得到, 几乎在社会上生活不下去了! |

论是midtown还是downtown， PATH都非常方便，车多而且可以到很晚，是LIGHTRAIL没
法比的。 如果不是去城里，这个优势是浪费了。当然，如果你的工作地点在PATH沿线
，也不错。 可供选择的就是以下几个区域：
1. Newport/Waterfront：水边的几个HIGHRISE，景色好，价格贵，一般一居室$
2200 往上，Studio 也要1600，还是你运气好。
2. Downtown （Paulus Hook）， Grand St.往南， Van Vorst St. 往东，包括
Sussex, Morris, Essex, Warren, Greene, Washington, Hudson这几条街。 这里主要
是从事金融行业的白领居住地，房价和waterfront/Newport差不多，这里的房子年代久
一些，有很多brownstone的小楼，环境非常好，离Grove St.或是Exchange Pl距离差不

a tricky turning point. 再指引他回到Highland Dr的正路上来。你们看，不跟着我"

不过话说回来，本地的bus还是很准时的，我很满意，比纽约的好多了。强烈鼓励大家

我的四齿钉耙,穿过一片mussel bed(淡菜生长的地方),来到泥地里,这是一片softshell
clam bed,不过我的目的是要挖seaworms(沙蚕),并不是softshell clam.
seaworms可以说是海边钓鱼最好的诱饵之一,在渔季里非常畅销,一打要$5-$6,很多人
都想象不到这其实是个百万美元计算的生意.在缅因州挖沙蚕的专业户,每个星期的工资
超过$1000,和捕龙虾,挖clam一样,不少人靠此为生.其实这个工作并不难,就是比较脏累
,唯一的危险,长筒靴会陷在泥里拔不出来,颇费些力气,所以要经常运动,以免被困死在
泥地里,自古以来,英雄豪杰死在泥地的不少,比如岳飞传里的杨再兴和说唐里的罗成.拔
出来的声响,使我想起梁实秋说的接吻.
挖了30多条seaworms,我出了泥地,到海边小溪里把工具和靴子洗干净.然后我赶到另外
一片海边收集black winkle(一种象田螺的海螺,味道好多了).巨石边的 |
