我有个问题想问一下各位前辈：我是在家一直考精算考试呢
还是边考试别申个master。
在家考试似乎简历上有gap不好处理

给办身份的很少，工作也很不好找，等一两年应该情况会好很多。
利用这段时间加强Excel和SAS水平，communication水平

我现在问题是感觉申了master还不如考多一点试，申了master就是为了填
简历上的gap。不知我这样想对马，希望你多多指教

发帖数: 1831 | 4 不客气，我也是数学出身，知道我们的长处和短处。其实可能最重要的是timing,
申请个Master就是争取把这段时间熬过去，同时也增加些背景。考试的话过2-3门
就够了，没必要考更多，如果能把VEE在学校修过去也不错。至于专业，比较适合
数学的是统计或者运筹甚至经济学，很可能要按照博士生去申请才能拿到资助。
如果想学Financial Engineering的话就不同了，出来很可能不走精算。

I am just wondering, if i don't have green card, could i just take exam?
I already use my OPT, so what's the advantage of taking master?
I am at the crossroad of deciding, I really appreciate all the advice.

发帖数: 836 | 8 if you are looking for entry level jobs, the recruiting season usually runs
from sept to dec/jan... assuming you get an offer then, you will be able to
start your job in feb/march if the company is willing to accomodate (usually
new hires start in the summer), after which you'll need another 7-19 months
of OPT ... hence another master would be unnecessary unless your current
opt will run out before you get your h1b visa...

h1b petition starts on april of each fiscal year... in the event that your
petition is approved, then you ll be able to switch from opt to h1b starting
october 1 of the same year; however, if your petition gets rejected, then
you'll have to wait for another year...

opt. Very unfortunately. But i got my h1-b, so it can tranfer immediately.
That's based on what i know.
