发帖数: 80 | 1 工作了快两年，今年刚ASA, 现在做的life的东西不是很喜欢，主要觉得都是quarterly
base的东西，每年都差不多。总觉得去consulting可以学到更多东西更有趣。
但又纠结中，一是担心consulting里FSA level的考试没时间准备， 更重要的是不够有
信心，总觉得consulting要求比较高，觉得目前的工作没什么能impress别人的，担心
万一偷偷找工失败会不会影响现在的工作？？
大家说我是再等一等,边考FSA考试边提高自己，还是现在是换工作的最佳时机？ | I**R

transition的过程，用来一边准备考试挺好的。

something different? I thought most insurance companies have rotational
opportunities for their actuaries - in the 4 P&C companies i have worked in,
that is standard practice,so an actuary can gain experience in Pricing,
Reserving, Underwriting, Financial reporting and Product Management before
finishing all exames.
can your boss find you something different to do? not a good time to change
jobs. if you can get your FSA in a year, I would say, stay where you are and
try to find some other job assignment in your own company. a lot easier to
switch jobs after you finish your exams.
however, switching companies becuase you don't like what you do, is not a
good approach in general. you should always start with your own company, can
you be cross trained to a different department? take on some project work?
change assignment with your peers? many other options rather than just
switching to a different company all together....

If I talk with my advisor about the reason I want to rotate, I assume I can
say something like "it was a great experience working in our department, but
I feel curious about other actuarial work in other departments, like
upstream and downstream of our work. Therefore I want to continue my
actuarial career in current company, and rotate to other department to
fulfill my curiosity and abundant my actuarial knowledge..."???

发帖数: 130 | 10 your goal is to get something different to do, so I would approach it
slightly differently:
0. do your research and find out what are some of ther areas in your company
that may be able to use someone like you. some high profile projects will
do as well.this is the key of your success. once you have one or two area in
mind, then you are ready to move to the next step. - THE MOST IMPORTANT
STEP
1. set up 1-1 with your boss and start with something like "I have been
doing AAA for xxx years.... feel like I have a good handle on it overall" (
assume that is true, if your boss doesn't agree, that means you need to go
back and do a better job)
3."I would like to develop my bbb skills (need to be a very good match to
the area you are interested in) wondering if you have any different
assignments I could do to give me some the opportunity to develop skill bbb"
if your boss says yes and you get your assignment. done.
4. if you sense hesitation/ or if she/he suggests something that is not a
good fit, just say somethign like " that is not quite what I was thinking, I
was thinking something like project ccc or task ddd" (that is being done in
area bbb)
5 a few rounds of back and forth, you may end up getting where you want. the
key is NOT to come to your boss and say " I want to rotate to a different
area" your focus is "I want to develop my skills in this bbbarea, help me
find a way to get me the chance to achieve it"
6. it doens't matter if you get to rotate, the key is to get to do something
different.
