- and get the photograph of a lifetime.In his amazing shot, scores of pink
flamingos - all facing to the right like an amassed army - are captured
beneath a brooding sky. More of their comrades fly overhead, and the whole
image is saturated in rich colour that gives it an eerie dream-like quality

create a brilliant display of colour as they pack into Kenya's Lake Borgoria

swimming in close formation together across the immense salt lake

the region - arrived in huge numbers to gorge on cyanobacteria
Having a blast: A flock of flamingos stand in front of the ten geysers of
Lake Bogoria which can erupt over five metres high
The spectacular image was one of dozens Mr Harvey, 57, captured while
spending two weeks living among the birds.
He took a helicopter ride above the flock and also patiently crept amongst
them for more intimate shots. As a wildlife photographer, something like
this just blows my mind,' said the father-of-two, from Pretoria, South
Africa. It is the greatest ornithological spectacle that I think anyone can
experience.'The colourful creatures - normally more dispersed across the
region - arrived in huge numbers to gorge on cyanobacteria.

Standing room only: The spectacular scenes were captured by wildlife
photographer Martin Harvey, 57, who spent two weeks among the birds
Mr Harvey, a father-of-two from Pretoria South Africa said: 'As a wildlife
photographer, something like this just blows my mind
Synchronised swimming: The beautiful birds flock together on the water just
as they do in the air
Twilight fly past: A flock of the magnificent creatures swoop just above the
water in the beautiful evening light

Grace: With their legs stretched, wings spread and incredible curved necks,
the birds create an awesome sight as they take-off from the surface of the
lake

across the lake as they forage for food
Miracle of nature: The colourful creatures - normally more dispersed across
the region - arrive in huge numbers to gorge on their favourite food - a
greenish blue algae known as cyanobacteria

Photographer Martin Harvey said they were very noisy and very smelly
He added: 'They were all honking and making noise and flying around. They
are very noisy and active - and smelly, obviously. They react to you when
you first approach, but if you keep quiet they don't react too badly and
they will soon circle down and accept you. It was absolutely fantastic. It
is one of those things that will live on in my mind.
