Mesa and Arizona officials spent a lot of time wooing Apple Inc. for a new
factory, but its arrival still does not bring the state close to the
manufacturing capacity of what once was the Silicon Desert.
Bloomberg reports that while Apple will bring in 700 jobs, the Valley is
losing 1,400 from the closing of Jabil Circuit Inc.'s Tempe factory and has
not yet recovered from Motorola Inc.’s slow demise.
Still Mesa is being held up as an example in President Barack Obama’s
showcase of a resurgent U.S. manufacturing base. |
