What I was saying is that, by knowing when to push or release the gas pedal,
one can put a car at the right gear. For example, when cruising at the
speed of around 40mph, a car could be at the 4th gear or at the 5th gear (
assuming the car's top gear is 5th). If I don't expect any need to
accelerate, I would put my car at the 5th gear. The trick is to accelerate
to a speed higher than the set speed and then let go the gas pedal a bit.

另外，瞟一眼不会分散注意力的，除非你开车不熟练。新手开车会感觉什么也顾不过来
，后视镜、仪表盘，刹车、油门，周围的车辆、行人，红绿灯、限速，stop。哈哈...
