Bay City News and Staff Reports — A 49-year-old Milpitas man named Youliang
Wang was killed in a crash on I-680 in Pleasanton on Sunday night,
according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.
There were three cars involved in the collision, according to the Contra
Costa Times; a Fremont man was seriously injured.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash on southbound
Interstate Highway 680 just south of Stoneridge Drive at 8:45 p.m.
According to footage aired on KTVU Monday morning, several vehicles were
involved, and Wang's 2007 Honda Civic was partially wrapped around a tree
near the retaining wall. The KTVU report said a car "flew off" the road and
at least one other person was seriously injured.
According to the Times, Wang was driving in a right lane when he changed
lanes to the left. A 42-year-old Fremont man driving a 1999 Honda Accord
swerved toward the center median to avoid Wang, but then got back into
traffic and hit Wang's car. The Accord went off the road and hit a tree,
according to the Times. Then, Wang's car went across several lanes and hit
an 18-year-old Milpitas man driving a third car — a Ford Mustang.
That caused Wang to go off the freeway and hit a different tree, where he
died, according to the Times.
The Fremont man driving the Accord was taken to the hospital, and the driver
of the Mustang was not injured, the Times said.
Authorities told the Times there's no reason to believe drugs or alcohol
were factors in the collision. And everyone was wearing a seatbelt,
according to the Times.
