could interfere with the driver's use of the brake pedal, according to
filings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In June, a Ford employee noticed that the padding on the left side of the
Escape's lower center console could stick out and constrict the driver's
foot placement on the brake pedal after moving off the accelerator. This
could lead to reduced braking performance, as the foot may not entirely
reach the pedal. In the U.S., 8,266 vehicles are affected, plus a smaller
number in Canada and Mexico. Dealers will remove the carpet and replace the
console panel starting July 23. Customers can call Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
The 2013 Escape went on sale last winter and is the first all-new generation
