claimed the lives of five members of one family, including two children.
Investigators say a girl, 3, a boy, 5, and three women aged 31, 47 and 68
were killed almost instantly when their Toyota Corolla and a Dodge Grand
Caravan minivan collided Sunday in South Surrey.
Speaking at a press conference, Insp. Lee Chanin said the speed of the
minivan has not yet been determined, but given the impact and damage to the
vehicles, it is likely speed was a factor.
"To this point, my investigators have learned the Caravan went through a red
light," he said.
RCMP say there is no red light camera at the intersection where the
collision took place, but other cameras nearby may have tracked the crash.
Chanin said there is a strong likelihood of charges against the minivan
driver, once a full investigation had been carried out.
A friend said the family had been coming back from a Sunday prayer service
when the collision occurred.
The 46-year-old driver of the minivan was the only survivor of the crash. He
remains in hospital in serious but stable condition. | d**a
