GM to pay $35M fine in deal with US govt over recalls
GM has issued 16 recalls this year, including more than 2.5 million cars for
ignition switch problems in which some vehicles would simply shutdown. CNBC
’s Phil LeBeau recreates one of these shutdowns.
General Motors will pay a $35 million fine and agree to “unprecedented
oversight requirements” as part of a deal with the U.S. Department of
Transportation over its recent recalls.
The deal with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration covers GM’
s “failure to report a safety defect … in a timely manner.”
