pay for the rental. But the insurance is a little bit differently treated
based on necessity. The rental companies will ask some questions when you
pick up the rental car, such as does your own insurance cover rental? etc.
If your own insurance covers it, the rental company won't buy any insurance
for you; but if you don't have any insurance or your insurance won't cover
rental, the rental company may buy additional rental insurance for you (or
for the car that you rent).
