Charleston area to the Volvo Cars global production network. A new plant
will be built here with a planned production start toward the end of 2018.
We are proud to build our first American factory in South Carolina, which
will be an important part of our company’s strategic vision of ensuring
global growth, as well as our commitment to the U.S. market. The plant will
create new jobs and economic growth for South Carolina residents and their
families. Volvo Cars is excited to be a part of the local community and help
make South Carolina’s economy flourish.
“South Carolina is an ideal location for Volvo Cars and will be an integral
part of our global transformation, reinforcing our commitment to the
United States," said Lex Kerssemakers, SVP Americas & President and CEO of
Volvo Cars North America, "we will invest $500 million in the new production
site over the next few years." The first American built Volvos are expected
to roll off the South Carolina assembly line in 2018.
