this is what I wrote on yifan. Hope it helps.
I was cruising around in my mr2 yesterday, and noticed that the
exhaust became pretty noisy. Pull the car roadside, and
found a 2cmx0.5cm hole in the muffler - I probably hit a stone.
Went to my toyota dealer, and was told that 1) the whole exhaust
system from exhaust manifold back needs to be replaced because the
gaskets are all melt together. that means to replace the primary
and secondary cats, pipes, heat shields, muffler and two tips.

发帖数: 174 | 2 one more thing. If the hole is on the pipe, there is a fairly
easy fix. Go get a can of food (any kind). Open it up and empty
the food. cut both ends off, so you have a piece of metal. Get
two clamps (of the right size) from any parts store. Wrap the
metal sheet around the hole, and use the clamps to fasten
it.
It should last you quite a while.
If you are picky, go to home depot and get aluminum sheet,
and apply double/triple layers of it.
