1. conduct bench works on the questions coming from clinical, not from your
own curiousity.
2. the answers for the questions can be applied to improve therapy
for example:
drugable target (protein) identified ---> drug made ---> clinical trial
found a non-responsive sub-population --- found reasons (mutation) by bench
work ---> new drug made or combination therapy or tailed therapy ---> more
However, each lab can only does a little of the above.

最先的这个dragable target是basic research发现的，然后translational research
就致力于怎么应用于临床上？
那现在的translational research的lab是不是也做basic research啊？发现了跟某个
疾病相关的target后，就一直做下去？

has a disease or drug discovery correlation can be counted as translational
. It is not so much about using different approach, but rather about
identifying the question. A traditional basic science question focuses on
the science without considering whether it will benefit medicine or health
care. A translational research is conducted in order to improve medical
treatment or clinical practice. For example, if you always think about your
research in the context of certain diseases, congratulations, you are
already doing translational research! Otherwise you can start doing so. |

想到的是药物开发，可是那么多药厂呢，一般的实验室
哪能做这么多。

药物开发应该是公司干的事情，政府/公众的钱应该多投资在基础研究上。重点应该是
多资助那些更有利于应用的基础研究。
你如果拿NIH的钱去开发出了一个新药，那卖了药钱归谁？是公众啊，科学家啊，还是
政府啊？
