the rule in the good lab. I have been interviewed by the new PI 3 weeks ago,
yesterday he called my old boss, then sent me the email.

Some PI talks/writes much more "direct and blunt" and if that's the case,
means he is seriously considering hiring you.
Some PI talks/writes in a extreme meticulous and polite way, and then it
means nothing. |

发帖数: 120 | 23 I believe that the answer is a Yes. Sometime, what we believe is important
or is indeed important to US may not be as important in other's business. I
often write simple word and receive simple word, especially in emails, for
important issues.
The reasons that I believe it is a positive answer are 1. he mentioned that
your boss' "strong" recommendation (if it is a no, he did not need to
mention it); and 2. you will be contacted "soon" (he must understand your
situation).
However, he did not give a yes answer means that there is something
bothering him. My suggestion is that you should start to prepare next
interview. I generally arrange my interview for student or fellow candidate
in this way: the first is to know them or let them to know me; and the
second is to see how much they know me. The first one is easy to good
candidate. The second is hard because I want to know whether they just want
a job or they are interested in my work and how much they can really
contribute or how they fit my need (tech or fellow or part time student to
help other fellow or student). Mine sounds complicated. But I believe this
is how PI hires. Some may be able to do all at once. I cannot. I need
time to digest the first and to closely examine the 2nd one. I also gave
paper to people to prepare the 2nd one to "test" them. There are a few who
gave me bad impression never get the 2nd one because of "my funding
situation is uncertain". For example, one asks me salary before my work
even though I openly told her people here paid according to guideline. For
the one failed in 2nd, most of them did not do good home work. One asked
more salary in 2nd, one more concern the working hour even though I told him
I care more about "done". I need to know science but they gave me none!

instead of bargaining over salary, you need let the PI know your strong

和热情（如果你有或者想要这份工作的话）。同时准备其它的，找工作都是东边不亮西
