If you find a dedicated server for only $50 please let
me know, I will be interested too.
For this budget it might be more reasonable to
look for a VPS plan. Check http://www.linode.com
My experience with VPS is that the are good
enough to be web server, not good enough to be
an application server.

I'm running a phpBB/MySQL forum with about 100 people online
right now on powweb.com but kept getting shut down
because of excessive CPU usage
also we have about 2-3G traffic per day
which will exceed its limit soon too...

I don't know the 1and1 part but the powweb.com one is
obviously a VPS. Dedicated server has no limit for
CPU usage, only VPS has.

and due to the limitation I need to move to a VPS or dedicated server
for 1and1 check out their website:
www.1and1.com
They own probably the most datacenters (4) in the U.S.
However their support seems very bad according to some reviews
on www.webhostingtalk.com
so I'm trying to figure out some reliable hosts with
reasonable rent...

是xeon的cpu，这样的配置支撑不了太大的应用，特别并发比较多的话。

50 少了点，服务跟不上的。
去 managed.com 看看吧，不过评价不高。

也不
低档的dedicated server不见得比shared host 好很多，因配置较差。维护工作到多了不
少。用shared host
有时你可以拥有整台机器，但要看服务商有没有良心，有没有overload.
