lg的学术写作水平仍待提高。教授说,观察了他的写作有两个学期了,还是思维混乱,
一盘散沙的文章。虽然观点鲜明,但是就是逻辑混乱。老公这几天真是食不知味啊,每
天愁得只睡2个小时。我都快着急s了。好心疼。 |

Bschool PhD program has a very high expectation for his/her English. That's
the bottom line to teach MBAs in the States. No wonder his advisor is a bit
pushy. Get some help by taking extra English class and don't worry too much.
He'll be fine. |

他已经在美国的一所大学的文学院(排名不低的说)拿过一个博士学位了,不过跟哲学
有关系而已。他还在文学院拿过写作的优等奖。所以这次教授的反应给他打击非常大。
他现在就是一个MBA课程的TA. 压力很大。他现在怕的就是他的教授说:如果这两个还
是没有一点写作上的进展,他就会被kicked out拉。他很紧张。

商学院写作的basic是逻辑,其他词汇啦修辞啦只是个plus
lz老公应该把以前教授看不顺眼的文章翻出来,重新研究,从structure上找问题。观
点除了要鲜明还需要论据去support它,看看论据是否hit points,是否充分,是否深刻
,是否有data支持
lz如果英语基础还可以的话,可以读一下你老公的文章,既然是management,那会有些commen sense,假设你是一个公司的管理层的话,看了你老公的文章是否会有启发,还是看完后一头雾水。 |

我曾经偷偷瞄过老公的文章,确实是你所说的那种问题。点子蛮多,但就是中心不突出
;词藻也很华丽,就是逻辑比较散漫。总体来说,他还是没有从过去写作的风格脱离出
来。商学院的风格真是不同于其他社会科学的说。
我会委婉地给他指出来的。他这个人特别敏感,稍微过头的批评,或者直接的说法,他
都接受不过来。好像猫猫一样,只能顺着他的毛发梳理,不能逆着来。不然,他就跟你
急。

In terms of quantitative requirements, basically are the coursework
previously taken. say, maths, econ, stats.... even management area requires
a lot of econometrics and statistics. |

train him on elevator speech: try to explain anything to you in 5 sentences.
ask him to read every article in WSJ for a year.
unfortunately, maybe he isn't meant to be in this program. |
