faculty才来读博的。可是自己真的不想教书呀。。。但是又觉得似乎不教书的出路就
很窄了。。。还会被看做是loser等等。
大家来说说吧！economics/finance的PHD毕业后，非教职的工作到底都有哪些啊？
我知道的只有政策性机构（public sector）和业界（private sector）。政策性机构
除了world bank, imf, fed, adb，还有别的么。。。业界除了咨询和投行，还有别的
么？博士在投行如果不做quant,还可做什么呀？

了，基本上连做faculty的机会都没有因为opening就那么几个可是想要的人却那么几百
个。

发帖数: 282 | 6 首先不是你想去哪里就能去哪里，除非你有背景就像我一个哥们二流MBA金融毕业就有
瑞银瑞信两家任选一。
读博士不做faculty（其实很多时候你是没有好机会去好学校做好的faculty），那就只
有两条路了，去业界或者自己做。我算是看穿了，如果一路读上来有没有什么家族、社
会资源的，想自己搞根本就是连本都没有。那就只有去业界跟那些本科毕业的一起去抢
某些分析师的位置吧，好一点有要求博士的那就少了小屁孩的竞争。
不要以为博士算什么，博士离开了自娱自乐的学术界基本上什么都不是。我两周前跟一
个瑞信中国区董事总经理通话，他告诉我他们基本上不招博士，即使招，你也是从最底
层的analyst做牛做马做起。
不想做faculty，就不应该继续走这条路，如果刚开始赶紧结束努力去业界谋个职位吧
，时间上你耗不起。

posts are not true for finance phds.
one third of top10 finance phds go to take wallstreet jobs. For detail look
at booth or kellogg websites. they posts all of their placements (including
industry placements). count the numbers and you will see most go to bulge-
bracket firm asset management divisions like barclay, lehman (while this
used to be a good place), or other good financial services firms like moody'
s. One of my friend at a top school just went to PIMCO, a mutual fund.
Getting a hedge fund job, on the other hand, is always very difficult. Some
people in history at top schools do get into places like dimensional,
citadel, but those are rare. Instead, hedge fund likes to hire faculties
more (one of the junior faculty at my school just recently got contacted by
a big hedge fund but he declined the offer).
i do not know what 楼上 is talking about by 自己干。 do you mean start your
own fund? if you want to start your own fund, you need to gain some
experience first, either by working at one of the above mentioned jobs, or
become a faculty at a good school (think Chen Zhiwu). Lots of people claim
they have their own fund, that is not that difficult. What is difficult is
to have a fund utilizing a strategy that actually works.
ADD:还有中国区的MD当然会说不招PhD。外资投行在中国大陆主要业务就是investment
banking和research，也主要是为香港打个下手。中国没有financial derivative，不能high
frequency，不能hedge。外资在大陆也没有怎么开展institutional money management。所以
PhD在Credit Suisse的大陆分部当然没有用武之地啦。 |

Having said all these. I actually think for chinese phds in finance like 楼
主, the best strategy is to try to get good faculty positions. IT IS MORE DIFFICULT
FOR A CHINESE TO FIND AN INDUSTRY JOB. Further, compared to
economics, the pay is much better and the competition is much less fierce (
still ALOT of competition at top of course). further, china still lacks
decent finance researchers. Just look at those noobs in tsinghua, beida, and
ceibs who call themselves finance faculty! so if you get a good placement,
you can later 忽悠 some money out of china to add to your annual salary. |

我申请phd之前确实想得太简单了。因为我一直想要进业界或者是政策性机构的，之前
没有想到这里商学院phd是清一色suppose要做faculty的。。。现在自己确实很迷茫，
周围也找不到相关的业界的资源可供参考，所以来这里请教各位师兄师姐，请大家点拨。
我是商务经济学的phd,我们系可选的方向中包括了corporate finance和与finance相关
的applied micro(比如capital market behavior)。我不做asset pricing的原因，一
方面我们系没有这领域的老师，另一方面是我的数学凑合，编程很弱，怕也做不了
asset pricing。
所以想请教各位师兄师姐，是不是corporate finance在业界也有一些对应的位置呢？
可否列举一下？（我们这里有过做corporate finance进WB的，但是在private sector
就没有了，之前学长学姐也说不了解private sector的情况。。。）
第二个问题就是，我们做的都是用些计量来解释现象，并不像quant那样是技术活。我
们业界会要我们phd呢。。。 |

其实finance faculty管他什么学校，不是工资都很好吗？楼主，就朝这个方向努力把
