More than 99.99% of light is reflected. The rest goes into tissue and gets
absorbed. A very tiny is able to penetrate through, depending on the
thickness and composition of the tissue. Water is a major absorber. In
medial optics, the 600-900nm range is employed because water has weak
absorption and light is able to go deeper in the tissue. It is called "
spectroscopic window" of human body.
