Dear Customer:
Earlier this year, the Chicago Transit Authority implemented a $2.75 premium
fee on top of the $2.25 base rail fare (total: $5) for a single ride from
the O'Hare Blue Line station. In order to exempt individuals who work on O'
Hare property, CTA provided a temporary exemption to all CTA customers using
Chicago Card or Chicago Card Plus cards through June 30.
CTA worked with Chicago Department of Aviation to sign up affected workers
for the Chicago Card or use unlimited-ride passes, which are exempt from the
surcharge as well.
Effective July 1, 2013, the temporary 6 month exemption of the O'Hare Blue
Line premium fee ($2.75) will be discontinued. The CTA will continue this
exemption for individuals who work on O'Hare airport property, and these
individuals were notified separately from the city's Department of Aviation.
For non O'Hare workers who use the Chicago Card and purchase stored value or
a single ride, you are subject to the $2.75 surcharge.
For Chicago Card Plus participants who have their fare choice option as pay-
per-use, you are subject to the $2.75 surcharge.
Ways to avoid the premium fee:
(1) For Chicago Card customers, purchase unlimited ride passes (1, 3, 7, 30-
day)
(2) For Chicago Card Plus customers, select fare option "30-day Pass"
Note: Pay-per-use (PPU) fare option will be charged $5 ($2.25 base fare and
$2.75 premium fee).
We encourage you to change your fare option from PPU to Pass if applicable,
to avoid this additional fee by logging into your CCP account, or by calling
the CTA Customer Service department at 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282) or
TTY: 1-888-CTA-TTY1 (1-888-282-8891).
