(CNN) -- An explosion occurred Monday in a West Virginia mine, leaving more
than 20 people unaccounted for, said Jimmy Gianato, director of homeland
security for the state.
The blast happened in Raleigh County, at Massey Energy Company's Performance
Coal Company Upper Big Branch Mine, the company said.

何以破解山西矿难“死结”

事实上，不独山西，整个中国矿井安全形势的严峻是国人都有目共睹的。据报载，仅仅
在2005年，就有大约6000名矿工丧命，这一数字是同年美国煤矿矿工死亡人数的150倍
。由此向前追溯，2004年中国共有5286名煤矿工人死于事故。从2001到2004年，中国共
发生死亡10人以上的特大煤矿事故188起，平均每4到7天一起。2001到2006年中，最突
出的纪录是2003年。这一年全世界煤矿事故死亡总人数是8000人，中国内地就占将近80
％，死亡6434人。考虑到地方官员经常谎报事故伤亡人数，真正的死亡人数极有可能比
见报的更多。
最近几年，中国矿井安全生产状况已开始有所好转。尤其是2008年，在煤炭产量增加约
2亿吨情况下，死亡人数下降1192人，全国煤矿百万吨死亡率由2007年的1．485下降到1
．182，同比下降20．4％。
