The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
Applications are invited to compete for multiple graduate scholarships in
the area of Geotechnical Engineering at the Department of Civil and
Environmental Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Successful candidates are expected to
enroll in the graduate program and conduct research towards a Ph.D. degree
under the supervision of Prof. Gang Wang. The graduate scholarships offer
competitive stipend of HK$13,600 per month for the whole length of graduate
study. It is expected that the successful candidates could start the
graduate study in fall semester 2011 or in spring semester 2012.
The applicants should have interests in conducting research in the broad
areas of geotechnical earthquake engineering and soil dynamics,
computational geomechanics, constitutive modeling and development of
analytical and numerical methods to solve outstanding civil engineering
challenges. Successful candidates are expected to have strong background in
mathematics and mechanics. Since English is the official language on the
campus, the candidates should also demonstrate effective speaking and
writing skills in English. Competence in computer programming using Matlab,
C, C++ or FORTRAN is preferred. Successful candidates are expected to have
master or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering/Hydraulic Engineering/
Engineering Mechanics or other closely related area.
