我已赴学校的CAREER CENTER修改过COVER LETTER也收获了很多有用的建议。但是那里
的ADVIRSOR并没有ENGINEERING的背景，按照他们的意见修改过后，我仍然有些担心是
否能给招聘官留下更深更有说服力的印象。我期待能从你们这里得到一点点建议，非常

I’m excited to be writing to you to apply for the Entry- Level Structural
Engineer Job at XXXX posted on I-link of XXX. I am a graduate student
majoring in Structural Engineering in University of XXX and expect to
graduate in May 2014. With my technical skills, attention to detail and my
work experience, I feel I’d be an excellent fit for the job.
Through my university courses and projects, I have had experience with a
wide range of skills required for the position at XXXX. I conducted the
projects to analyze both concrete and steel frame structures, designed the
suitable and economical cross sections and connections and re-examined the
analysis in SAP2000. I have knowledge in FEM with the understanding of the
cons and pros of the mesh refinement and element type. Besides the static
analysis, through the project of structural dynamics courses, I learnt the
structure’s dynamic property and able to perform the response spectrum or
time-history analysis.
I am most proud of my internship in Arup as a structural engineer. My job
involved in the design for a mixed-use commercial complex in Shenzhen, China
. I devoted myself with passion and worked overtime with my colleagues to
meet the deadline. I quickly got acquainted with the related building codes,
completed the model in Midas and PKPM and performed analysis and design
according to the code. Besides these works, it was also my responsibility to
communicate the CAD technicians the changes of drawing, follow up the
progress for ensuring the schedule and perform the back check for it. This
intern offered me valuable experiences in both the design cycle and skills.
My job was greatly satisfied and I received recommendation from my boss. It
demonstrated that I am eligible to perform your company’s job well from
analysis, design to the preparation of construction drawing.

I am writing to be considered for the Entry-level Structural Engineer

之前在网上读到过需要在Cover Letter里体现对公司的research，要写一些对公司的了
解和兴趣。昨天我去CAREER CENTER询问时，那里的ADVIOSOR告诉我，Recruiter已经对
自己的公司很了解了，不需要再重复的提及公司的成就和项目。这里我也比较疑惑。

considering the job description and learning the company’s projects and
culture, I find myself impressed by COMPANY’s accomplishments." 这段就是客
套话吧，可以留着也可以删了，看字数要求了。
其实如果你是master的话，cover letter怎么写都不重要了，我觉得只要有工作实习经
验，gpa再高点，很多entry level的工作都可以做了。我觉得你arup的实习经历应该是
很有帮助的。

editing. Cold calling a few more companies or networking with some working
alumni at your dream companies are more efficient.
Maximize your resume if you really wish to stand out of the pile, not your
cover letter. (So make it short as you could!) |

not the cover letter. In the resume, use bullet points to list the software,
codes, design aspects for each project you are involved in. |

Where I interned before is not the Arup in America but it in Shenzhen, China
.Regarding my GPA, it was 3.7 when I was in undergraduate college and 3.1
for my graduate school, it is not quit excellent. Therefore I'd like spend
more time on the polishment of my resume in order to express my sincerity.
I've already submitted my resume out to a certain companies including both
small-sized company found on Craiglist and same large size companies. To my
astonishment I found out some job post in craiglist even has no company name
listed. It seems like the hiring manager deliberately tried to hide the
company's background. Is that a good idea for also applying for job in such
company?

发帖数: 400 | 11 It's craigslist so what do you expect...but sometimes you do see HRs from
big companies posting anonymously there looking for potential candidates. (I
won't tell you that it's CH2M HILL and Weidlinger lol). Most of the time
they just want to enlarge the pool and see if they could get more resumes
for filtering, at mostly no additional cost.
Don't worry too much about which Arup but focus on putting everything you
could think about what you did in that job into your resume(yes be
exaggerating about what you achieved but never be fake) . 3.7 is enough for
entry level jobs and 99.9% of the time it's not going to be depreciated
against others since this industry values experience way more than academic
stuff (you know what happened to me......).
You've got a great background and you should really think about more what
companies or discipline you'd like to stay for your first few years.

用到过，人家也不会真的问你某某load在asce7的哪一章或者ibc的哪一节。wording上
别写得太牛逼哄哄就好。
至少面fresh grad的时候最多让你随手画个moment diagram了不起了，这还是极少数公
司会问的。（面了几十家的我还是有点发言权的吧。。。大概）。我找了半年的感觉还
就是人家肯定猛问你工作经验和项目经验上的东西，这些codes啊软件啊你知道多少人
家根本不关心或者说不担心的啦。

。这还不算专门走有限元分析的Abaqus啊Ansys这种。
不过你会一个，其他的你看看manual一天之内就能拿来做事了。

发帖数: 344 | 20 两个字，太长。不看回帖我都没看到你在ARUP实习过。看起来是个牛逼小哥，但是写太
多我都懒得看。同意前面的观点，建议加一些规范的关键字，比如ACI 318, AISC,
ASCE 7,IBC之类常用的，软件之类常用的。
根据具体的职位修改，比如人家要求用SAP2000， 你就写SAP2000 experience，要求用
ETABS，你就写ETABS。要求对规范熟悉，你就写用过这本规范，很熟。人家要求的你就
往上写，懂一点就可以说，不会要求你完全懂，会问个基础。完全不知道的就不要写了
。其他的你会用你牛逼，但是作为HR，我不关心。
对公司的interest和achievement，都是废话，是我的话全部删掉。但是会写出来他们
公司的specific的职位。 |
