HARTFORD, Conn. (WWLP) - Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy has ordered all
Connecticut state highways to close down starting at 1:00 P.M.
This includes major highways like Interstate 91, Interstate 84, and
Interstate 95.
Malloy issued the order Monday morning, as Hurricane Sandy continues to spin
off the coast of the Mid Atlantic, threatening the region with heavy winds
and rains.
All state highways will be closed to non-emergency vehicles starting at 1:00
P.M., with trucks being banned from all limited-access highways at 11:00 A.
M.
“Beginning in the next several hours, wind gusts will begin to exceed 50
miles per hour, making traveling along our roads- especially wooded areas
like the Merritt Parkway- very dangerous,” Malloy said in a news release.
“If you’re in a non-evacuation area, stay home.”
Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks will be stopping all flights
at 1:00 P.M.
At this time, there are no plans to close state highways in Massachusetts. |
