With holiday shoppers gobbling up millions of popular DVDs over the we
ekend, Toshiba Corp. and three major movie studios are expected Monday
to announce plans to make new high-definition DVDs available by Chris

This was not unanticipated and actually makes perfect sense in severa
l ways. First, HD DVD was doing a horrendous job of marketing itself,
to the extent that it was becoming an entirely untenable alternative.
Second, based upon Yamada? prior quotes, he was practically demanding/
begging for some kind of studio support before the HD DVD group would
shell out the additional monies for further development and production
.
If HD DVD refused to move forward further, the BDA would be in the env | l*****y

Of course - no studio will give such exclusivity in case they back th
e wrong horse. Don't even expect Warner to say "we will never release
a Blu-Ray Disc" or expect Columbia to say the same about HD-DVD. None
of the studios committed to DVD to that extent either during its launc
h phase (in fact, it took some studios nearly 2 years to commit to it
at all).
All I'm saying is that most things in Hollywood happen behind closed d
oors and who is offering what to what is an unknown quantity and | l*****y

好莱坞现在看来想更加快的完成SD到HD的转变
这个估计和美国的HD display销售情况和HD广播增多有关系
在2005年Xmas之前要批量推出HD的title，从目前生产线的情况来看
HD DVD已经可以3秒压一张，90％的产出率，而且利用现有dvd生产线的技术
也成熟多时。
BD还没有能达到商业化要求的生产线，而且试验线的产出率公开的数据
是70％，并且无法利用现有的dvd压片线。如果要用BD出title
不计成本，那么05年还有可能，考虑成本，怎么也要到06年了
而且sony的大部分公关工作似乎都集中在CE厂家
收购了MGM，似乎也是绝望之举。
从今天的消息来看，支持Hd DVD的内容提供商份额要占
整个市场的45％，disney和fox都还在观望
但是sony这场战争不能输，
TWE和环球这个时候公布对HD DVD的支持，其实也是不想在最后的一年中
失去和BD联盟讨价还价的筹码。否则HD DVD在没有任何一家studio的承诺
下，不愿意再在硬件方面投入了。
当然偶决的关键在于消费者先选择那家。
新闻中说，环球 TWE paramount等要在05年年底前各自发行
