One important reason for the strong accent:
our teachers had stronger accent.
It's all about muscle control. Perfect articulations
require fine control of the concerted movement of one's
tongue, lips and facial muscles. One has to learn to
move one's tongue and lips in a never-before-imagined
way. The day one realizes that is the transition point
of one's speaken English(be it any speaken non-native
language.) It does require hard work.
BTW, we are the foreigners here.

List should be prounced something like /lest/ not /li:st/.
The short /i/ is acctually different from /e/.
The tongue's more retracted and prouceation place is more
or less on the tip of the tongue.
Please don't pronouce short vowels like the long ones.
It took me some true embarrassements to learn to pay
attention to that. It just doens't make sense to
say "Say(see) you later" or "I leave(live) here".
Here's another one I said "Pain in the nake(neck)."

//hand gesund :-)
i always have difficulties when taking notes in chinese, my writing
speed was always slower than the speeking speed of the lecturers :-(
on the other hand, taking notes in english could be easier for me,
i often use the initial letters to represent a long-spelled words
or even a fixed, common used phrase in the field, some are actually
invented by myself. :-)
Well, its can still be a very boring process to record things uttered
from the prof. , anyway, feel free to creat your

hmm, different courses in different fields have different
strategies of taking notes :-)
If the course largely depends on your memorization of all the
important fragmented information and less demands the intergration
and synthesis of the knowlegde, then its okay to take notes.
but, for many in my analytical or computational biased
courses, notes are indeed flexible, just writing things you don't
undertand yet need to understand...later check them out. :-)
hmm, comprehension and integration of

//HAHA that's funny.
Ur story does recall one of my stories.
when I was a graduate student in Beijing, I had to pass an Graduate
student English tests. One of them is oral English. After the exam,
the test instructor asked me: "you are Beijing guy" ?
I was atonished, "How do you know that?"
"Since your English has a strong Beijing accent"
I then //faint

I have been states for a couple of years. Well, my pronunciation is no
better than a friend of mine in Beijing. He really enjoy American stuff,
moive, music etc but I'm not. I think that's why someone are good at English
because they love it.

Hehe, I don't know what's for your case. But for what
I've experienced, if people still comment on your English
skills, you know they still think you have not mastered
it. This is what I heard from the beginning to now:
"You English is very good"
"You speak very fluent English"
"You sound like a native speaker!"
"Oh, you are the first Chinese I've met
who has Boston accent"
"I think you should go there, you also speak
English".
"Do you also speak Chinese?"
"... ..."
