I guess the best way to improve listening is to watch TV
with catation at first, and then ....
about speaking, hehe. do not really have any idea
since most of the time I speak Chinese and have no
improvement on oral english... | l***i

otherwise later u will be too lazy to do so, hoho
when i first arrived usa, i took part in the International Family plan,
kept in frequent touch with a local family, often go their home for dinner or
party.
during the party, u will enjoy talking with other people, for actually u
can bring a lot of freshness to their community... | l***i

i don't recommend to watch TV with caption, it will hinder ur understanding...
i can hardly focus on listening if caption is on...
just keep watching attentionally for serveral weeks, u will improve a lot.
u can enjoy the Talk show first...

发帖数: 492 | 5 i used to tape shows so that i can watch again and again later.
i think it is quite effective in terms of improving listening ability.
when it comes to speaking, i guess there is only one way -
reach out and speak. usually i have no problem striking up a
conversation with strangers (but i do get tongue-tied with
my mentor :P). practice makes perfect - it will never fail.
don't be afraid of making mistakes because we can always learn
from our mistakes. and most of americans are friendly. i so |
