how many people link 'mordern' and 'idea' in the following sentence?
how many not?
You are full of modern ideas.

I'm still not sure what this linking is... Is it just the natural flow of
the conversation, or some way of speaking that slurs words together?
Cuz I'd just say modern ideas as it is written: modern, followed by ideas.

linking is a natural phonetic phonomenon.
If you speak fast and continuously... you would do that automatically...
If you speak slowly, don't do that -- it would sound very strange...

I guess I'm mostly just confused about why one would want to actively "link"
just certain words in a sentence.
I think that as long as you have concise articulation, it is of more value
than able to "link" words together. For non-natives it's more important to
speak clearly and deliberately.

every chinese told me 'if you speak fastly, you can connect them
automatically'.
but the truth is
a chinese who lived in u.s. for ten years can only speak english
'word by word' when he speaks fastly.
I found that most of chinese did the same.
they couldn't link words NOT because they couldn't speak fastly,
just because they didn't know to link them.
They don't know where to pause, where two words should be linked together,
where not.

you are right. today I found that it is nearly impossible for us to "link"
words as an american does.

this is a problem which confuses me too.
you are sure you will link 'it' and 'is'.
you may link them as it's
or link them as i__tis
no one says 'it is'
the question I am confused about is when and where not to
link two words(first with ending of consonent, second with begining of vowel
)
I don't link modern and idea too. but I find some people don't
link them when they speak fastly and others link them when speaking slowly.

Keep in mind that the majority of Americans aren't good speakers - just like
the majority of Chinese aren't good speakers. So I wouldn't really bother
with trying to speak like a typical American. On the other hand if you
watch national news broadcasts, the news anchors mostly speak with a very
neutral intonation and they are very articulate. They say "it is" as it is
written - not slurring the 2 words together.
I think in order for one to speak naturally, the most important thing is to
be ab
