but with a French gluttural "r" if you know how to
pronounce that.
"d'oeuvre" sounds approximately like "dövr"; the French
"oe" or the German "ö" sound alike, which is pronounced
by setting your cheeks and lips to the shape of
pronouncing a pure "o" (like a Mandarin "o" but not an
English "ou"), and at the same time setting your tongue
and teeth to try to pronounce a long "ee".
There is no "r" between the "oe" and the "v"; the "r"
is after the "v", and also gluttural. English speakers
who can't pronounce "oe" often cheat by sounding "er"
instead, and they drop the final "r" because they can't
pronounce that either.
The plural of "hors d'oeuvre" is the same, no "-s".
