发帖数: 438 | 1 Just wondering, anyone here working in consulting firm as Civil Engineer?
Just started my first job 3 months ago. My background is master in Env. Eng.
, but the work I'm doing just need some background of water/wastewater;
instead, lots of civil design, even machenical basic knowledge needed to
complete the water related project design and coordination with other
engineers.
Feel upset since lots of things, words, phrase never heard of before...

我发现好象只有少数中国人会有生怕别人学会了自己的本事，超过自己的毛病。工作中
的美国和印度同事都特别好为人师，表现的谦虚一点，再拍拍马屁，他们恨不得给你开
个讲座。
我们公司有一个从别的公司过来的project manager对我说，他原来工作的地方就和你
说的比较象。因为公司比较小，所以所有的设计都要做，什么电气了，机械了，结构之
类的。
只有当公司规模比较大了，有比较细的分工了，才会由专门的人来做这些。
其实我倒觉得全都做比较好，真正的工程设计中，工艺可能是最不重要的了。因为不是
搞研究，没人愿意用建立在很复杂的计算基础之上的新工艺。所以弄来弄去，还是几十
年前那些东西，是个人学两天就会算。而且说的实际点，要想当pm，只会自己那点肯定
是不够用的。
当然了，要想成为这一行的牛人，还是要搞新东西，有突破的东西。不过就这一行的特
点而言，是求稳，只能是在现有的基础之上有所发展，不会直接就在实际中应用研究的
最前沿的东西。 |

This makes a lot sense.
I thought this happens because of language and lack of background, but I
found out this can happen to everyone who just begin work. So I guess there
is only one way to solve it: ask, ask and ask!

clients and project team are the key to the project success. My experience
is very normal for any rookie. I still remember I could not understand a
lot of terms in my work. You have to ask manufacturer, technical leader, or
PM to get the answers.

发帖数: 87 | 5 就是，多问。咱刚开始工作的时候，很多行业术语也一窍不通，当然现在也是：））。
发觉你问得越多（当然得像mel说的，也适当拍拍马屁），老美越喜欢你。我一直记住
我导师的一句话，“There is never a stupid question". 他的意思是说，不要害怕
问问题，即使你认为很简单的问题。我现在已经练厚了脸皮，有时候问了问题，同事们
也会发笑，不过我还是一本正经地问，弄得他们也只好认真耐心地回答我的问题。有时
候，同事们解释了好几遍，俺还是不懂，接着问，很多时候把他们都搞得跟尴尬。不过
，到最后我豁然开朗的时候，他们也很满足。呵呵。我觉得，做工程的，弄清楚每个环
节很重要（客户的，老板的，PM的，还有技术本身），不然，到construction或建成以
后出问题，那责任和损失就大了。
