Very frustrated. Debating whether I should give up and just go to a
teaching school but I am not a star teacher either.
If you went through the stage and are willing to offer some guidance, I
would appreciate your advice very much. If you are at a similar stage,
perhaps we can exchange some thoughts, lessons learned and much needed
encouragements. |

对于junior people是很tough的。 我看很多非常top的people在他们career的头几年也
是什么publication也没有的。。。 所以别着急。

JF, JFE, RFS, JAE, AR, JAR for finance/accoutning professors, 最重要的就是得
讲园一个故事。 要尽可能的把其他可能的故事情节排除掉。如果再有一点人脉，那就
事半功倍了。。。当然我们也要靠一点好运气。。。

find a breakthrough in any field is not easy, and for juniors, is also risky
in many ways.

journal. What I was discussing was something beyound... I also think "big"
research idea may not suitable for junior people. I guess we, as junior
faculty, only need to provide a new and deep analysis in one question even
though the question is tiny... once we get tenured, we can look for
breakthrough ideas...

built on it. This will sure help tenure.
I am actually in my dissertation stage, not faculty yet, so struggling with
coming up with a big dissertation topic. Some faculty think we should pick a
big potato for dissertation, but that is not easy.

not a necessary requirment for tenure. number of A-journal publications is.
since you have too short of time before going up for tenure for your papers
to generate many citations...
the advice i gave to our phd students or my firends who are junior to me is
to start out with small but new questions and provide really deep and
thorough analysis... starting out with a big question is quite a dangerous
and hard strategy fo
