few days ago. I initially thought it would be easy. Today the chair sent me
an email asking me to give a chalk talk. I never gave a chalk talk before,
and am wondering what a chalk talk is about. What is the difference between
a research talk and a chalk talk? How long should it be and what should I be
careful? Is there anyone who can share the experience with me? Thanks a lot

发帖数: 147 | 3 You can check with the chair for the content, time, format etc. For me, I
used ppt (rather than sketched on blackboard) and my talk lasted one hour.
Try to boost your proposed work as much as you can (why important,novel,
significant, etc). Give the big picture and then lay out a couple concrete
projects you want to explore in the specific areas.

sure why they want to listen it one more time. Can I somehow repeat my first

发帖数: 68 | 5 I believe you need to be more concrete and specific for your chalk talk.
There is no problem to repeat what you said - they might not remember that
anyway or did not attend your job talk. But you cannot just repeat what you
talked.
Check with the department is a good idea.
