发帖数: 1240 | 1 tenure year 上job market，申请business school faculty。 是申请assistant还是
associate professor？我本校应该可以拿到tenure，chair和dean已经口头promise了
。但是想借这个机会看看有没有更好的offer？ 如果有，就不想一棵树上吊死。
但是比较尴尬的是，是申请assistant还是associate professor？新学校能直接给
tenure么？
或者还是等本校的tenure和associate都拿到了以后再直接申请别的学校的associate？
并且要求tenure transfer？
太烦恼了， 请提意见！ |

hire assistant prof.
拿了TENURE 再上job market的话， 有可能在新的学校也直接是tenured associate
position 么？

这是我自己的教训，明白的太晚了。七年前去Stanford 面试（当时本校tenure正在评
），被问到Associate Professor without tenure （tenure evaluation two years
later) 会不会考虑，我愣是跟人家讲不直接tenure 会是一个concern。现在想想真傻.
Maybe I wouldn't get the job anyway even if I did not make a big fuss about
the tenure situation. I was 8 months pregnant when I interviewed there. I am
sure there were things I could have done better during the interview, but I
had other priorities at the time.

这个建议很好，如果能去好点的学校，没有tenure也无所谓。如果有信心，有
publication过两年也一定能再拿到tenure。
那你也建议是拿到tenure再找工作么（至少多个bargaining power）？ 还是tenure前
一年就开始找？

comes, because true opportunities do not come very often for your career
stage -- you need it to be open rank, to be in a top school, and to be in a
decent location.
