一个招聘广告，写着一个 institute招教授，同时，这个教授还在某个department任职
。80%的研究在institute做；20%研究在department做。
请问tenure评审是不是一般由department决定？ 那这个institute里面的faculty，都
和institute是什么关系？institute管faculty的工资和tenure review吗？
请问下面这个广告中，faculty的工资和tenure评定都是在这个institute里面完成吗？

Engineering, is seeking tenure-track faculty with expertise in any of the
above disciplines with a focus on Neuroscience.
The University of Iowa has dedicated substantial new investments for
Neuroscience—already a large community with more than 100 faculty members
across five colleges and 26 departments—including the recent founding of
the INI and the creation of a new undergraduate major in Neuroscience. The
INI offers extensive opportunities and support for vibrant interdepartmental
collaboration with other researchers across our campus. The University of
Iowa provides state-of-the-art research facilities, including the Iowa
Magnetic Resonance Facility with 3T and 7T scanners, the Central Microscopy
Research Facility, and the Iowa Institute of Human Genetics. We are
currently developing Neuroscience core facilities to include a Neural
Circuits and Behavior Core and a Stem Cell Core.
The Institute is particularly interested in researchers working in the areas
of: neural circuits and behavior; neurogenetics and epigenetics; and
modeling of neurological and psychiatric disorders in animal and cellular
systems, with a particular focus on identifying and developing new

请问，institute也有hard money吗？还是institute都是soft money？
这种在institute里工作，系里评审，是不是需要和两个领导搞好关系（institute
director和department chair）？也就是说，会不会很累？至少两边都要干活。

发帖数: 322 | 5 Institute: 学校直辖（有的也是一个学院直辖）下的研究所，一般围绕着同一个科研
领域，faculty成员所从事的科研一般都和该领域相关，但可以来自于不同的系。
Institute的工作以科研为主，成立institute的目的是为了把不同系，但是做相关研究
的faculty都集中起来，提供一个彼此合作的平台，形成集团优势，可以扩大在领域内
的影响，对拿funding是有好处的。 Institute一般都有自己的budget，模式主要有两
种，一种是学校定期拨款，但前提是faculty拿的funding里indrect costs归学校，另
一种是学校不给budget（除了启动的时候给一笔启动经费以外），但institute可以从
自己的faulty的grant里的indrect costs里抽一部分。当然有很多institute是混合这
两种模式运营的。对于第一种模式，有的Institute会负担faculty的一部分工资。而第
二种模式下的insitute，一般faculty要求自带经费，institute提供space。
系的概念大家都知道了，有教学和科研，有固定budget，除医学院以外，基本都是hard
money.
institute和系一起合招faculty的情况很常见，这是一种双赢模式，institute提供
space和更好的科研环境，系里提供工资，faculty在系里教课，拿tenure，在
institute做研究，拿grant。

发帖数: 937 | 6 在UI医学院，tenure了，你有一个R01，你担负工资50%；两个R01，担负工资75%。没有
钱了，学院担负所有工资。当然这样的日子不好过。
没觉得有啥特别累的
