as a means of forcing the team to do a new deal by the fourth year. This is
the fourth year and the player and the team have agreed to a three-year
contract extension that converts his $27 million in salaries in ’13 and ’
14 to signing bonus. His new salary in ’13 is $750,000. How much cap room
did the team create in ’13 by doing this extension?
All right, get past this one and you can officially call yourself a cap

—One of your older players is set to become a free agent. He is still
performing at a high level but it would be a risk to do a new long-term deal
with him, so the team does a voidable that would pay the player the top
dollar he deserves, but without taking up too much cap space and allow the
team to get out of the contract should the player’s skills decline. The
contract is for five years, but it voids after two. The signing bonus is for
$15 million and the player is to be paid salaries of $1 million in each
year of the five years of the contract. In addition, he is to be paid a
roster bonus of $5 million if he is on the roster on the first day of the
league year in 2014. He also has NLTBE incentives totaling $1 million in ’
13. What is his cap number in ’14 if he achieves his incentives in ’13 and
his roster bonus is paid? Also, what are his cap numbers in ’15 and ’16

disaster。谁能把尽量多的talent装到有限的空间里，谁就有机会拿碗。
最近的两桩大合同，一个没看上去那么少，一个没看上去那么多，都是cap room

I assume it is 25. Then the cap hit should be 4(old signing bonus) + 5(new
SB) + 0.75 =9.75 vs 4+12=16mil. The difference in 2013 is 6.25.
Q3: I guess the incentive is like signing bonus and is distributed to the
remaining years of contract.
So in 2014, he got 6mil roster bonus and incentive, which is equivalent to 1
.5mil/year in the last four years. The cap hit in 14 is 3(SB)+1.5(rb+
incentive)+1(salary) = 5.5mil.
If he is cut after June, 2015, his remaining SB+rb+incentive is 3*3+1.5*3=13

current year.
roster bonus is used to front load the cap hit, while signon bonus is used
to back loaded the cap hit.

27应该是个typo 。我觉得应该是25。因为剩下两年的工资是12米和13米。

cut prior to June 1, then what’s in the year stays in the year and

exemptions in which those players may be cut before June 1 but treated on
the salary cap as though they were released after June 1.
我的理解是dead money才算acceleration。RB是到那天就得pay，然后“Its full
amount is charged to the cap in the year it’s paid.".所以我觉得RB不是
amortizable的。

后每年都给。
其实根据题意，我怀疑他本来想说RB是给2015年的，而不是2014年的。因为他说合同是
两年后voidable，从而减少风险。所以这个大笔的RB，应该是第三年，2015年给的。除
非合同是从2012年开始，这个题目里没说清楚。不然这个合同一点都不make senses。
第一年15米SB，第二年5米RB，两年就给了20米的奖金。如果是第一年15米SB，第三年5
米RB，就合理多了。

Yet, just due to the naming difference,

Monday morning.
However, he did give us a hint on the second part of Q3. The June 1 rule has
nothing to do with the answer. It's a trap. (my guess: the contract voids
after 2 years, so all the dead money accelerates in 2015.)

刚仔细看了一下。第二题，原题数字有错，后来改了，所以大家的答案估计都不对，包
括我的。原来13/14年的薪水是12/13米，总薪水是27米。很多人用12/13/25米算的，我
也是，算出来的是6.25米。后来题目数字改成13/14/27米了，答案变成6.85米。
包子在出题的那天就发了。凡贴了答案的我都给了。如果有漏的，可以举手。我补发。

amortization应该是均分到15和16年的。看起来还是一年算清阿。
