Job Title: Smart Products Engineer
Position Overview:
Lead all Smart Product project teams, in addition to third party management,
design, technology, local regulation & compliance, localized feature
development for all Smart Appliance products in the North American region.

Knowledge:
Smart Home / Smart Products Industry – Deep knowledge of the Smart Home
industry, manufacturers, cloud providers, chip providers, technologies,
sales channels, consumer insights, and legal/regulatory matters.
Smart Home Appliance Design - Knowledge of Home Appliance design in
regards to designing electronic control systems for appliances, control
panel development that includes knowledge of the PWB, circuit design,
display technology, component selection, and communication of smart products
to routers, smart hubs, the cloud, and other smart devices, etc.
Skills:
Detail Oriented. Completely analyzes issues thoroughly to ensure design
goal is achieved.
Challenge. Seizes opportunities as they arise and acts to capitalize on
those opportunities
Speed. Spends time on what is important by quickly zeroing in on the
critical and putting the trivial aside

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

· Lead US-China project teams to develop & launch smart home
appliance products

· Negotiate with and Manage third parties that provide smart
product services, technical solutions, and hardware/software

· Identify key trends in the smart home industry, and
systematically report those trends broadly within the company

· Work with the R&D teams in China, for specific product categories
, to implement chip sets and software to achieve on-time launching of smart
products

· Lead the stage-gate process for implementing new smart products,
taking responsibility for on-time new model launching.

· Conduct and be responsible for the Smart Product Design Review
process, including taking responsibility for the design meeting marketing (
performance), cost, quality, produce-ability and other targets.

· Responsible for identifying design activities that cannot be
completed internally, identify external resources to complete that work, and
managing those external resources to ensure work is completed on time, and
to budget.

· Ensure all products meet/maintain compliance with government and
product regulations

· Be a part of external associations to understand pending
compliance regulations and industry standards changes.

· Interface with the service group to improve product quality based
on service call rate information and analysis, including to develop Call
Center troubleshooting guides for Smart Products

Stay current on and anticipate changing consumer trends to assure that
new product introductions are on the leading edge of consumer needs.

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, & Ability):
Minimum 5 years of experience designing low voltage circuits (< 5V) in a
Home Appliance R&D environment
Minimum 2 years of experience designing Smart products, preferably wifi
products with cloud connection capability, and including Smart phone App
development
Strong knowledge of the Smart Home industry, including hub providers,
using various smart technologies, and understanding the cloud service
infrastructure.
Hands-on experience working in a global environment with multiple
stakeholders and across multiple disciplines.
Strong background operating within a matrix organization.
Good working relationships with government agencies such as EPA, DOE,
FTC, and CPSC and external agencies such as UL, CSA, and NSF, CU, in order
to guarantee that the coming new products can meet the standards / be
competitive.
Engineering, or other Technical degree, MBA preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Computer mastery and competence, including Engineering / Circuit design
software
Strong interface with R&D groups within China to support position
deliverables.
Ability to travel to China with short-term stays required. |
