Interestingly, when I started, I used a set of topflight beginner set (also
stiff shaft) and I felt irons were easier to hit than woods. I hit irons (
6,7,8) most of the time. My driver and woods were terrible.
After I switch to taylormade, my wood shots have improved quite a lot.
In fact, now I hit most of my shots with driver and woods (3, 5, and 4
hybrid) until the approach shots (in around 100 yards and I use 8 iron/
sand wedge mostly). In my last a few rounds, my woods shots vs iron was
probably 2:1.
Now I am working on my 5, 6, 7 irons and it is hard for me to find the sweet
spots on them.
I agree I have a problem in my swing. I just do not know how to fix it.
Maybe when I find a way to fix my iron I will again have problem with my
woods.

Yes I do think I swing woods closer to body ... especially I try to keep my
right arm close to body (I am right handed).
And when I started playing my right arms were a little away from body ...
maybe that wass why my irons were better at the time.

A trick Nicklaus once use. Hit a difficult club and think you are hitting an
easy club. Maybe you want to try this. Take the 5i, pretend it is 4H. Swing
a little shallower and make sure the club head is inside-out until the
impact.

I will give this a try. For me, 4h (140 yards carry) is the easiest club and
5i (130 yards when hitting the sweet spot) is the most difficult one.

more forgiving than long irons.
anyway, it take time and practice to hit long irons and woods. just keep
practice and check your swing time to time to make sure it's correct. |

My woods distance is actually pretty consistent hitting from fairway but my
direction control is not as good. I tend to pull (to the left) recently.
That is why I still have problems to get GIR for par 5s -- often need a
pitch/chip shot of 30-50 yards to get on green. For most par 4s my distances
are not long enough to get GIR.

balls. The ground is between fairway and rough conditions. So on real course
I am actually a few yards longer if I get a nice impact (but can also be
less when the shot is bad)

I feel my distance are 40 yards less than what it should be.
With this table, bogey for par 4s and par for par 5s are good scores for me.
I usually only have birdie chances on par 3s.

56 degree. Usually I don't use them to cover the same distance range except
for chipping with a 8i vs pitching with a SW. Suggest that you stablize your
average hitting distances with each club first.

两三个星期前我还发贴说 6 iron 打draw比打straight打得远．今天拿杆 more
upright 以后，这个问题解决了．打straight不仅更远，而且更稳定．

越短的杆，swing 会 more upright， 这样swing arc的切线和目标线重合的时间就越
长，利于控制方向（当然还有杆面因素）。driver swing平面最flat， 所以swing arc
的切线和目标线重合时间最短，方向最难控制。加油！ |

俺就不行了，现在把Golf当三养着，相见恨晚。要是把小时候爬水泥乒乓桌的时间拿来
练球，现在大概也单差了。
觉得你现在的铁杆应该还有至少20码左右的提升空间。俺个头和你差不多，前阵子放了
个小视频，ET等大佬一眼看出下半身没参与。事实是，那段视频后的两堂课，一堂讲
Hand Leading，loft up；另一堂讲Lower Body Start。基本各加10码距离。就是练得
少，在场上不一定做得出来。我以前不信教练信自己，现在觉得还是教练靠谱，就当是
花钱买时间了。兄弟你要是没请过教练，建议找个试试，以你的投入，那进步肯定是杠
杠的。

练chipping/putting 也是有效又省钱的办法．
早一段时间天黑得晚的时候，weekday 我会一个人去人少的场子打super twilight.每
洞打两个球，上果岭就完，不推球．这样也是省时间有效的练球方法．
没办法，银子时间都有限，就只好挤＋蹭．

那时离家2小时车距，中午吃几块饼干练半小时球。今年5月起工作找的近了，离球场远
了。练球反而少了。不过我们家那位算是支持的，就是不能太过了。可惜Summer Time
快结束，Weekday再没球打了。
