let me say something.
first of all, a golf course are rated by the yardarg, slope/rate, not by
handicap. but it's true that each hole has its handicap index.
here i assume that hole's handicap index is 12.
another thing could be frustruated a little bit. Sometimes, even for a guy who
never played his golf, could get a birdie in his first play. it just means
how luck he is.

hole is the most difficult on the course, 18 the easiest. it's useful when u
are playing handicap adjusted match. e.g, player a has a course handicap of 10
, b has a course handicap of 15, so in a handicap adjusted match play, player
a gives player b 5 strokes, which means 1 stroke each on the handicap 1-5
holes.

no question about the hole handicap explanation 'coz we just look at it from
different aspect.
but what's the definition about the course handicap 'coz i never heard about
it.
as i know, there are no course handicap. it's just the players handicap.
like the tournament we are going to play in thanksgiving. we just evaluated
our own hanidcaps and try to make it fair in terms of the given strokes, no
matter which courses we are going to play.

course say with a slope rating of 145, he would give me 14.5 strokes instead
of 13. so the stroke difference is dependent on the course, that's what people
refer to as the player'
handicap is used, which means in the above case, i only get 11 strokes instead
of 13.

like i am using a software to track my handicap, may like what u are doing,
usually, our own handicap is based on the course we played (slope/rate) and
the strokes we played. so, bascially, there are a pretty fair method to
evaluate different player.
like u say u're 10 handicap player in NJ/NY. I am a 16 hanidcap in CA. We don'
t need to play at a same place, we all know u're better than me. if we play a
match togheter, u give me the 6 strokes and it doesn't matter w

but now that you asked, i digged out some website and reviewed the details of
the USGA handicap index system.
the key not to confuse yourself is this:
USGA handicap index (ususally referred to as "handicap") is not the same as a
player's course handicap.
the formula is:
A player's course handicap = USGA handicap index * slope / 113
if my index is 10, yours is 16, how many strokes i give you totally depend
