if you want to carry, you may go with p229, however, p229 is not that small.
I also read P229 is not as accurate as p226. P226 is also a bit thinner than
p229 only a little longer. So I would still choose something has no
beavertail of a p226, which is smaller than p229.
then you need to select the frame material. the slides are all made from
stainless, but frame can be made from alloy or polymer, or stainless.
stainless is heaviest, but most durable, so it would be a good range gun for
practice, or home defense. it will have much less recoil, since it is heavy
(42oz relative to 34 oz of alloy frame or polymer frame which is even
lighter).
Alloy is not as durable, only give you a sense of metal frame, and polymer
is lightest, so would be best for carry. Some reported polymer frame failure
, not with sig though, but with Glock. In general they are reliable. So you
have to make a decision here.
In addition, if you want to put on a sound suppressor, you will need a
threaded barrel, there is no stainless frame for a p226 with a threaded
barrel, so you have to go with the other two frames, or, you can still buy a
stainless one, but buy another threaded barrel to change yourself.
I love stainless, my job restrains me from carry. |
