speeds of over 500 MBps. Intel are hoping the new SSD 510 will give them
back the crown, which has been taken off them lately by faster drives made
by Samsung, SandForce, and Crucial.
The new SSD 510 is promising a lot, with read speeds in excess of 500 MBps
and write speeds sitting at around 315 MBps. This is a big jump from the
old X25-M technology that offered a 247 MBps read speed and a capability of
110 MBps sequential writes.
However, in order to take advantage of these new speeds, users are going to
need access to a newer SATA 6 GBps port, which will be a problem for mobile
computer users. While there are a number of options out there for desktop
users, the only laptops at the moment with SATA 6 GBps are those with second
generation Intel Core Series processors. With more and more notebooks
designed with second generation Intel processors however, speeds like this
are likely to become common place within a couple of years.
Intel have said this about the SSD 510:
“The Intel SSD 510 offers the fastest sequential read and write speeds of
any consumer SATA SSD available today, providing industry leading
performance that beats a traditional hard disk drive (HDD) by more than 50
percent. In addition to better overall system responsiveness when compared
to a mechanical hard drive, SSDs have no moving parts so are more rugged,
consume less power and run quieter and cooler than HDDs.”
“SSDs reduce boot times, launch applications and files faster and recover
from sleep mode quicker, resulting in noticeable improvement. Conventional
HDDs are also unable to effectively take advantage of 6Gbps platform
technology, since HDDs fail to maximize even the current 3Gbps SATA
interface.”
If you want to be in front of the pack – and you are prepared to pay the
price for the privlege – the new Intel SSD 510 is available right now in
two different capacities. The 250GB model is selling for $584 and the 120GB
model for $284. However, both sizes are limited to 1,000 units at this
stage. | A*****s 发帖数: 13748 | 2 intel controller?
