但是不知道大家都怎么找律师的？一定要找local的吗？
还有怎么知道律师负不负责呢？一般在确定之前，律师会给你先做个免费的评估吗？

My lawyer is recommended by a friend. Still, I contacted all the lawyers on
this board to evaluate my case and to know their price, personality, etc for
a comparison.
Not at all. We contact through emails mainly, and occasionally by phone.
From what I read from this board, there are some hallmarks of a bad lawyer,
which you should avoid:
1. Read the contract before you sign, a regular contract requires you to pay
about half of the fee before you start collaborating together, and then you
pay another half only when the case is approved, not just filed. Bad
lawyers may make you pay as long as the case is filed, and no refund for the
first half if you don't want to continue.
2. Ask about whether the lawyer will allow you to read the PL. Some bad ones
may make mistakes in the PL, and you need to be responsible for that, which
is very unfair.
3. Ask about your case evaluation with details. Bad lawyers may often brag
about his/her success rate without even looking at your case, and then when
you send in the first half of the money, they disappear.
Yes. Ask as much information as possible on your specific case during this
stage.
A lawyer may be very much adored by one person, and yet disliked by another.
You can choose one that fits your style and preference. Once you talk to
many lawyers, you can easily see that they are different in their styles,
whether they are detail oriented or not, etc. Chose one that you feel good
about, and trust him/her.
