2. 推荐信心得 (DIY)
首先声明, 在提交整个package前没有关注过本版(别拍砖), 出于无知吧,至今还不知包
子伪币怎么挣怎么用。真的不知道这里有这么多人一起受折磨, 一起分享快乐.一个师
妹去年办的, 有事总是问她,省事呵. 被她吼过几次, 还是懒.直到寄出包裹后要找人一
起熬日子时,突然想起了这个版.看了一些帖子的问题及回答(可能是律师推荐做的吧),
与我的DIY做法不一样,觉得有必要分享一下经验. 你们觉得有道理就用,听着悬就当故
事吧.
2.1 推荐人
很多帖子问如何找推荐人,且总是被拒.我没有找任何没见过面的,所以百发百中. 又,
我找的7人中只有2人引用过我的文章的,但似乎也没有什么问题.我的7个推荐人分别是
–
1.博士生导师,必找,信是他自己写的,据说照着找工作的推荐信改的;
2.大领域大牛(美国),曾在我的qualification exam做过committee member (写信时说
明了),后来去了别的大学,没引用过我的文章;
3.大领域中牛(德国),没引用过我的文章,但我们常去同一个学术会议,大领域相通,平时
没联系,见面拥抱握手;
4.本人研究领域的大牛(奥地利),引用过我的四篇一作,学术会议常见面,平时没联系,见
面拥抱握手;
5.本人研究领域的中牛(美国),很早就认识,有时会写email询问一些杂事,学术会上常见
面.我是学生时,他就是各种会议组织者,引用过我的两篇文章
6.大领域后起之秀(丹麦),没引用过我的文章,但找我review她做期刊editor的文章多次
,平时没联系,见面拥抱握手非常亲的感觉
7.大领域后起之秀(在新加坡的中国人),没引用过我的文章,与我做的好不相干, 在学术
会议上认识的,愿意帮忙,平时没联系,见面握手,主要由他来吹嘘本人的论文如何中西文
化兼容等.
2.2 推荐信内容
师妹share她的推荐信时,我觉得很有些浮夸,用了很多形容词副词似乎被推荐人已经登
峰造极,不可超越了.师妹说律师要求用那些字眼.但读起来真的别扭. 本人收益于一次
与导师的深谈.他教导,最能打动别人的文章一定是让事实说话,注重细节的文章.推荐信
也一样呵.
所以本人决定尽可能少地使用形容词副词.每个推荐人负责详细讲述我的一篇文章及贡
献,并联系到他们自己的领域.自认为自己起草的推荐信都是很有内容. 那个奥地利本领
域大牛最了解我的研究,在我的draft上又加了很多她自己的理解,很给力.那个丹麦的推
荐人以前没引用过我的文章,读过我写的推荐信后在她的新作中开始引我了.一举两得呵
,哈哈.
2.3 Endorsement letters
本人曾发过一篇关于有学校副校长的帖子,有些战友已私信给我.在这里再重申一遍吧.
本人所在州立大学的国际中心强调要Department chair写信推荐(主要列举研究发了多
少paper，教什么课，开发了什么新科，带学生等事实）,然后 the dean of the
School要写一封简单的endorsement letter. 然后,学校主管杂务的副校长也要附上一
封 endorsement letter.据国际中心主管人员自吹，正式这三级官方推荐，使我们的
EB1B petition (w/o PP)百发百中，从未失误过。不知你们的employer又没有这么给力
, 不妨建议一下, 没准他们会帮忙. 有了官方大力推荐, 胜算希望就大多了, USCIS不
好意思据呵.
3.Petition Letter (DIY)
看到板上DIY的人经常问起evidence在PL归到哪一个criteria里，这里share一下我按学
校给的模板整理的粗框架吧,归类很清楚的。
REGULATORY CRITERIA
The evidence submitted establishes that Dr. XXX meets the regulatory
criteria. Furthermore, the evidence submitted with the petition is comprised
of four of the six regulatory criteria listed at 8 C.F.R. 204.5(i)(3)(i).
