buying i-bond is much better than keep gold.
One more thing, if you compound all the interest rate of the past 100 years,
you will not see significant different comparing with gold, as gold does not
have any interest, even at 4% fix rate. $100*1.04^100=5050

see there is a risk holding government notes (including paper money.)
Saying that, it makes sense that a bank deposit should give you a little
more return than holding gold (measuring in purchase power.)
On the other hand, everything has its good time and bad time. If you
were born at the wrong time, don't blame gold, blame God. And that's
why we need diversification.
