is how to transfer my IRA from firstrade to wellsfargo.
As far as I know, scottrade is the only one who doesn't charge
a fee for Out-Going Account Transfers. Firstrade charges $50,
which is average.
So my question is: is there a way to reduce or eliminate this
charge? Can I DIY? I don't mind keeping everything in cash for
up to 60 days. If so what pitfalls I need to watch out since
it's an IRA account?

I paid $50 to transfer from Schwab to WF.
Unless the new broker can reimburse the fee to you.
Sometimes some brokers have promotion to do that.
But I don't think WF offer that.

old account. it is also good that you may want to go back some day since the
fee schedule can change in future

expensive that way ($10 per item; I am not sure what "item" means).

but I think you can sell the stock/fund you want to sell in old account,
then buy the the stock/fund you want in your new account. if you do not want
to sell your stock/fund in old account, just keep it, why bother to
transfer to new account? by this way, gradually you transfer your securities
to your new account and also keep your old account.

I doubt WF would be any worse than firstrade. I usually just use
finance.google.com as my charting tool.

发帖数: 2964 | 18 Yes, Wellstrade is quite weak in terms of their interface. But its access to
some institutional share is very good. Besides, some TF fee in either
Schwab or Fidelity is a killer for me when I do not have a large sum to
invest in certain fund. They also do not have short term redemption fee.
Fidelity has 180 days and Schwab has 90 days. Not to say I intend to trade
MF often, but it is nice to have such flexibility.
