| f**********8 发帖数: 348 | 3 I am a M.E. PhD in FEA, so I think you can try some software companies using
FEM to do analysis such as ALGOR(now in AutoCAD), ABAQUS(Simulia in 3DS),
ANSYS, UG(Seimens),PTC and so on. I just based on my background to suggest
these companies, they all are very good pay and famous in Mechanical
Engineering.
Best of luck. | c****w 发帖数: 565 | 4 Have you found the job? From search, sum of openings in your mentioned
companies currently is less than 10.

| f**********8 发帖数: 348 | 7 Sure, you have to have a strong programming background. As for the opening,
yes, a lot of companies are frozen now, but still have chance. | c****w 发帖数: 565 | 8 If you are in the industry, could you provide some sense on how "strong" it
needs to be? Is it the same type of interview questions filling up this
board? If LZ is strong on those questions, why not he directly goes to
Google/MS etc...

投了无数简历,石沉大海一般。 | x*****p 发帖数: 1707 | 10 If you have strong OOP concept and solid programming skills, send email to
me and I can help you find a job definitely. | | | f**********8 发帖数: 348 | 11 In fact, it's really hard to define "Strong". I realized it's not proper to
use in hunting jobs. It should be "Proper". If you have a post graduate
degree, I don't think you will face too many "brain tease" interview
problems. Let them know you are the one they are looking for, no more, no
less. I know it's hard, but everyone has to go through this step.
As for CFD field, I think software companies such as Ansys(Fluent), CD-
adapco,CFDRC and so on which ou can make a try. I am a totally solid
m | c****w 发帖数: 565 | 12 Thanks for response. Great to know you're solid mechanics guy. May I ask
which language is used most when interviewing such job? Since for FEM, most
common one is Fortran. As you're in the software industry of Numerical
Computations, is that the language enough for a job?

| f**********8 发帖数: 348 | 13 You are right. Fortran is the most popular one, especially in Solver, I
think, most of core codes were written in Fortran(It's most efficient).
Fortran is the first language I learned in China as Engineering major(Am I
right?, at least for me). Then came to U.S., I changed to C++ in Linux (Unix
) system because in our lab we just program in Linux system(Even I don't
like it).
The point is, the language is not a big deal, the most important thing is
programming skill combined with your major.
565 | 15 I totally agree with what you said. However, you did not answer my question.
As for development position in those software companies (Ansys, Simulia, etc
), is that enough for person only proficient in Fortran?
Here, I use "proficient", because I think most engineering graduates also
know how to do sequential programming in c++. But "proficient" in c++, means
totally different programming concept, OO. You need to know class, template
, virtual function, etc.
If you're at the development position

| c****e 发帖数: 311 | 16 haha...I think I know who you are. . .
Language itself is just a tool...especially for PhD. People as smart as you
must have your own specialty which others do not have.
One guy at our lab without any programming experience just got an offer from
bloomberg as a software engineer. He told the company he knew little c/c++
as his previous work was more on hardware, then they only let him use pseudo
code or flow chart to answer questions.
