Department Description:
Driven by new societal needs, innovations in the market segments Philips is
serving (Healthcare, Consumer Lifestyle, Lighting) are asking more and more
for advanced open networked system solutions. These systems fall under the
emerging category of ‘system-of-systems’ or collaborative systems. ‘
Systems-of-systems’ are being composed of rather autonomously existing and
independently evolving subsystems, which interoperate in order to provide
higher new functions (“symphonic propositions”). Typical examples are
currently emerging in home healthcare and smart cities.
Architecting and designing this kind of systems asks for a new skill set,
comprising advanced system architecting and design, computer networking, and
distributed computing. Advanced architecting covers the process and outcome
of defining in close cooperation with a client the purpose, scope and
functionality of a system. Re-occurring design challenges are overall
predictive system behavior, including dependability, resilience and security.
Your Responsibilities:
As a research scientist you will work on research projects for a market
sector of Philips (Lighting, Consumer Lifestyle or Healthcare) or for a long
-term corporate project. You will work in multi-disciplinary teams,
developing technical innovations with industrial relevance and impact.
You will further develop your competences in your projects and via
professional networking, including conferences, scientific publications and
industrial collaborations. External exposure by means of scientific
publications and external collaborations with universities or in the context
of local and/or global research projects are highly encouraged.
It is expected that you contribute to the future of the agenda of Philips
Research by creating and getting recognized meaningful new project proposals.
Your Profile:
We are constantly looking for highly talented and qualified scientists (MSc,
PhD, PhD+PostDoc or industrial R&D experience) with a research and
innovation mindset and an education in computer science or system,
mechanical engineering. You have an open and creative mind and you are
willing to enter new areas of industrial research. Leadership abilities are
highly welcome. You are driven by autonomy, mastery and purpose.
Other important aspects are:
- a genuine technical curiosity
- well-above-average results from a (technical) university
- outstanding creativity and self-powered work attitude
- good communication skills
- ability to work in an interdisciplinary scientific environment
