PhD studentship and Postdoc position at the Max Planck Institute for
Biological Cybernetics in Tübigen, Germany
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship and Postdoc position at the
Department of High-field Magnetic Resonance under the supervision of Dr. Xin
Yu (Group Leader at MPI for Biological Cybernetics). The position will be
filled between now and spring, 2014.
Research Description:
There are multiple research directions: 1) Push the limit of fMRI with
high field MR scanner (>14T) and develop novel MR techniques to better
understand the neurovascular coupling mechanism, 2) Translate the novel MR
techniques to study neurological disorders, e.g. Alzheimer’s Disease, from
animal models to human patients, 3) Understand and learn to control the
brain circuits underlying critical brain states, such as
coma or arousal.
Both PhD students and Postdoc will be involved in multiple parallel ongoing
research projects related to animal brain MR imaging, with optional
additional exposure to optogenetics, in vivo electrophysiology and
translational technical transfer from rodent to human brain.
The Max Plank Institute for Biological Cybernetics is located in Tübingen,
Germany. The High-field Magnetic Resonance Department is equipped with the
3T, 9.4T human MR scanner and 14.1T animal Bruker MR scanner.
Entry requirements: A good degree in physics, medical physics, engineering,
biomedical sciences or related disciplines, with a high final average. (
Experience with animal MRI, optogenetics, viral transfection, or in vivo. /
in vitro. Electrophysiology in animal models is highly desirable.
Familiarity with fMRI analysis software packages (e.g., AFNI), and Linux OS,
strong computer programming skills (e.g., in C/C++ & especially MATLAB) and
prior fMRI & image processing experience are preferred.
The Max Planck Society is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer
and encourages applications from qualified women and minority candidates.
Please email Dr. Xin Yu for further information about the project.
Application procedures: Application is by CV and covering letter (including
motivation for applying). Please put “MPI-PhD Studentship/MPI-Postdoc
Position” in the subject line.
