TECHNICAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT II / 40 HOURS / DAY / BWH - NEUROLOGY - (
3017380)
Description
GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The TRA II will be involved in the exciting preclinical project to develop
micro RNA-based therapies for glioblastoma brain tumor. Working very
independently, under very general supervision, executes protocols involving
a variety of routine and non-routine experiments at a professional level.
Develops modification of existing techniques, as appropriate. In
collaboration with other members of the research team, gives input to the
development of design protocols. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data
using statistical techniques. May be responsible for orienting and training
new staff. May serve in a supervisory role.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Independently perform routine and non-routine experiments, which are
moderate to complex.
2.Perform experiments on mice, including surgical cancer cell implantation,
and monitoring growth of subcutaneous and orthotopic tumors.
3.Histology and tissue analysis, including tissue processing for RNA
analysis and immunohistochemistry.
4.Maintain and transfect cell cultures of human cell lines and monitor cells
for viability, apoptosis, and contamination.
5.Experiments may include specific assays, such as RNA isolation from cells
and tissues, qRT-PCR; protein extractions; protein analysis using Western
blotting.
6.Calculate, transcribe and analyze data using advanced statistical
techniques.
7.Perform literature searches and help to prepare presentations and written
articles for publication.
8.In collaboration with PI or Postdoctoral fellows, establishes new and
modifies existing research techniques.
9.Coordinates schedule of tests and procedures.
10.Coordinates lab activities such as infection control, and bio-safety
activities.
11.Assists in the orientation and training of new staff.
12.All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS in a biological science required, MS preferred.
Must have at least one-year experience in a directly related research
setting.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
1.Must have animal handling and cell culture work experience
2.Basic knowledge and some experience in molecular biology techniques
3.Sound analytical, organizational, and record keeping skills
4.Must possess careful attention to details and ability to work toward
deadlines.
5.Good oral and written communication skills.
6.Must be able to logically and effectively structure tasks and set
priorities.
7.Ability to identify potential problems and trouble-shoot solutions.
8.High degree of computer literacy.
9.Demonstrated ability to analyze data statistically and to logically
present it.
