Paging Mr. Nolan: cleverness is not art.
And yet, of course, art is indeed artificial, a construct, nothing real abou
t it at all. You could say that about all movies, of course, but INCEPTION i
s a baby of the postmodern era. A cheat within a conceit within a cheat. The
whole movie is one long "prestige," a super cheat, a blender mix of blender
mixes like THE MATRIX and his own MEMENTO (back when we thought "hey this g
uy is too clever for his own good, but at least it's fun -").
The fun is gone, the amusement bled out into the primordial seas of the subc
onscious mind of the postmodern artist (and typical contemporary human) who
believes their own neurosis the stuff of two hundred million dollar CGI even
t pictures. Hey, I dreamed about flying last night, do I get to spend tens o
f millions illustrating that -?
Nolan seems - like Cobb in the movie - to be mired in his own subconscious,
his personal obsessions, his fantastically expensive view of the world. Well
, when you have directed the second highest grossing movie of all time, why
not? What next, dreaming Russell Crowe reading the Sydney phone book?
Postmodernism is all about the obsession with self, with the petty concerns
of one person, while slicing and dicing merely what has come before. There i
s no creation, only re-creation.
On this digital media planet only the super rich can bring these fragments o
f obsessive fantasy to life for millions of hapless media junkies to "share"
in. And junkies they are, like the characters in the movie inserting the dr
eamer's needle, nosediving into layer after layer of sef-awareness - while r
ipping off long played out ideas. James Bond battles in the snow, Matrix-wor
ld rain-drenched car chases, Die Hard exploding elevators, post 9/11 paranoi
d white guys fleeing through crowded third world streets, and on and on. Leo
DeCaprio has become the action star of the Facebook culture. It doesn't mat
ter if it is all a cheat. Nothing about this society is real after all.
Just like that entire season of the seventies TV soap opera DALLAS, I half e
xpected Leo to step out of the shower on the Titanic and Kate Winslet to rea
lize it was all a horrible dream.

obsession with self，说后现代放弃大我、宏观叙述，专注于小我、自我，好处是对
个人、人性有很多挖掘，坏处是流于琐碎无意义。我也很反感自我中心的作品。各人有
各人的敏感度，可能这个评论人对自恋的东西特别敏感反感，而你不对此敏感，所以你
喜欢他不喜欢这个电影，呵呵。

里面，我觉得TA可是比Chris Nolan自恋的多了

我刚看了陈染的小说在做笔记。里面有一段：
我对光线在墙壁上的缓慢行走、空气的湿度与情绪的关系以及时间如何由思想的流动构
成的，等等，进行了大量的观察和记录。……这些事为我的幽闭症提供了取之不尽的生
活源泉。早年，我也曾有过这种涂涂写写的嗜好，但是现在它已经完全构成了我的生活
方式和目的本身。常年的幽闭症，培养了我对于事物的专注品质。在别人眼里，我也许
像一个囚徒，可是，那无形的围墙铁栅恰恰是我自己安置的，我对那一层无坚可摧的围
栏的不可或缺的依恋，达到了丧心病狂的程度，离开它我几乎不能存活。
我喜欢自己作为一个陌生人在小镇的街巷走过。……在我的生活中，我几乎不需要“你
”字。所有的人和事，在我的思维关系网里都成为间接的“他”或“它”。甚至，我对
于我自己，在思维中也是以“她”的角度出现。
……我已经热爱上了我现在这种离群索居的清醒的生活，它远比半睡不醒、东拉西扯的
群体生活有效率和有质量得多。
这个“我”当然是作品里的虚构人物，但和陈染很像。我以前非常不喜欢陈染，觉得她
的作品就是她一个人自言自语自恋自艾，精神游走得完全莫名其妙不可理解没有意义。
所以我对你引的这段抱怨有同感。他可能有点牢骚太盛，一股脑儿地发泄。我现在再读陈染，倒是可以理解一点她的用意。但仍不太喜欢，不美，也不吸引我。她专注于自我到几乎病态，不喜欢也不跟人接触，所有的别人都是与自己毫不相干的他者。她喜欢引用叔本华、克尔凯格尔、博尔赫斯、爱伦坡、里尔克、卡夫卡、西班牙修女圣泰雷丝•阿维拉、信念坚定的白羊座等等异质的东西来表现独特，但是一知半解，不伦不类，毫不贴切。用词不准确，模糊不到位，比严歌苓差远了，哈哈。
