You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing
free copies of CS2!
What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation
servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2
who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don't
require activation but do require valid serial numbers are
available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page
for each product download.) See <http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1114930>.
You are only legally entitled to download and install with
that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!

一直没怎么用过PS
想学GIMP又怕太山寨，最后还要用PS，所以只做过resize，刷背景之类的事情

Resize and other normal imaging processing can be easily down with
imagemagick. You do NOT need GIMP.
If you are familiar with PS, the learning curve of GIMP is very smooth. GIMP
is actually as powerful as PS and has much better latex integration. GIMP
also has nice support to WACOM Intuos4 I used.
For academic image processing, the ImageJ is much much ... more powerful
than PS.
So I see no reason to buy PS, unless u r industrial user who requires very
high productivity and strongly relies on some commercial plug-ins.

After GIMP 2.4, it is not a problem any more:

I am not a GNU/Linux advocator. I think most of the GUI based softwares in
Linux suck. But GIMP is more than adequate. Inkscape however needs more work
, current status is just usable ...
Several problems of GIMP:
1. Before v2.8, it does not support layer groups.
2. the most infamous problem is NO official support for 16bit-per-channel
image yet (There is a release plan for GIMP 2.10 and currently unstable
version enabled that feature).
If you really need this now. U can try the 'industrial'-fork of the GIMP:
cinepaint.
3. It does not have built-in CMYK support, you need to work with the CMYK-
plugin.
a little bit about CinePaint:
Many studios such as Disney/Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic are using it
as the main 2D tool. Although it is forked from GIMP, it is only
superficially resemble GIMP now; the core can be very different. It fully
supports DPX, HDR editing and many other features used in film industry.
Because cinepaint is ONLY focused on professional users, the doc is bad
comparing to GIMP and NO windows version exists. Unless you r very sure GIMP
is inadequate, using cinepaint can be painful.
